At least 41 prisoners have reportedly died in a fire in an overcrowded prison in Indonesia and dozens more have been injured.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire that broke out in Block C of Tangerang Prison for drug criminals on the outskirts of Jakarta, Rika Aprianti, spokeswoman for the Department of Justice at the Department of Justice, told Associated Press.
Hundreds of police and soldiers have been deployed to take control of Tangerang Prison, which was designed to hold 1,225 inmates but has more than 2,000, Ms. Aprianti said.
Block C was home to 122 convicts when the fire broke out.
She said the fire has now been extinguished and all victims have been evacuated to a hospital.
