Package tours prices are down as much as 54 percent year-over-year, and bookings rose in line with the introduction of a Covid vaccine.

Vacation comparison website TravelSupermarket looked at the average prices for breaks this year compared to January 2020 and found that there were bargains to be found among the destinations searched online.

The most popular search for a seven night vacation between May and October 2021 has been Crete. According to TravelSupermarket, prices for the destination fell 10 percent year over year.

May to July were the most sought-after months, but there seems to be interest in travel from early spring as many people wait for positive signals from the government.

Emma Coulthurst of TravelSupermarket said, “Crete has some great prices for 2021 and stayed off the quarantine list for most of last year, which probably explains its position on the list. Plus, it’s a fabulous vacation spot – I went in there.” October and absolutely loved it.

“I suspect why the Maldives, Dubai and Barbados are in the top 10 because, prior to the current travel restrictions, they were very open and encouraging for UK visitors and remained practically free of Covid.

“I don’t think it’s a coincidence that six of the targets on the list are islands, many of which have low virus incidences.”

The 10 most wanted destinations are:

  1. Crete
  2. Tenerife
  3. Maldives
  4. Mallorca
  5. Dubai
