Bideford tops staycation wish-list but resorts in Wales dominate bookings for 2022

Stays are expected to remain very popular in the coming year as families still enjoy vacationing at home rather than traveling abroad.

UK vacation rental marketplace, snapshot, has released its latest booking report highlighting the most popular planned travel destinations for 2022.

The town of Bideford in North Devon took the top spot ahead of other popular travel destinations in Devon and the Lake District, as well as the top 5 location for 2021, Whitby.

Bideford is a historic port town at the mouth of the River Torridge with plenty of independent shops, local producers and picturesque quays.

Newquay on the Cornish coast and the beautiful town of Keswick in the Lake District come second and third, so expect nostalgic beach vacations and rural exodus is likely to be the new year.

While Whitby was voted the most popular place to stay for 2021, the coastal city is currently in fourth place with a view towards 2022. Several cities in Wales are now in the top 10, with Brecon taking its place in the list of previous top travel destinations in the top 5 for the first time.

Matt Fox, Founder of Snaptrip, said: “After a surge in stays over the past year, it is encouraging to see new, lesser-known beauty spots recognized across the UK as ideal vacation spots.

“With six destinations in Wales seeing the biggest increase in bookings for 2021, including the city of Llandovery with the highest increase of 669%, and multiple locations making the hotspot list for 2022, we would expect the UK Vacation continues to be trendy in Wales. “
