Biden wants Mexico to accept migrant families who enter the U.S.

The reason families have been allowed to stay in the United States is because Mexico is not always ready or able to receive them. At his first press conference, Biden said he expected that to change.

“We’re in negotiations with the President of Mexico. I think we’ll see this change,” said Biden. “They should all go back.”

Biden has repeatedly defended his administration’s immigration agenda and how it is dealing with the current situation at the border amid growing criticism from Republicans and some Democrats of the increasing numbers of migrants attempting to enter the US.

Against a joint indictment by his GOP critics, Biden stated that his steps were necessary to end certain Trump-era policies and would not affect future migrants.

“I do not apologize for ending programs that did not exist before Trump became president, which had an incredibly negative impact on law, international law and human dignity,” said Biden.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas warned last week that the US “is well on its way to meeting more people on the southwest border than in the past 20 years”. But Biden noted on Thursday that the majority of migrants arriving at the border are being kicked out almost immediately.

One of the biggest challenges facing the Biden government is creating more space for unaccompanied children arriving at the border. More than 5,000 migrants are being held in Customs and Border Protection, and thousands more are in shelters operated by the Department of Health and Human Services while they wait to be matched with a verified sponsor, according to the Department of Homeland Security and HHS will .
