Bill Plaschke voted nation's best large-publication sports columnist

Bill Plaschke of the Los Angeles Times has been named the best sports settler with major publications in the country for 2019, Associated Press Sports Editors announced on Saturday.

“Whenever Bill plays a game I’m working on, he somehow not only writes a typically great column, but also makes my story better, by passing on an insight he noticed or quoting “said colleague Andrew Greif, who is the Clippers for The Times. “Readers don’t get to see that, but it’s another reason why this honor is so well deserved.”

It is the eighth time in his career that Plaschke has won the award.

The Times was among the five major publications to win a Triple Crown and placed in the top 10 of the sports website, the daily section and the Sunday section. The Washington Post was the country’s only Grand Slam winner and also placed in the top 10 for a special section.

Other top 10 finishers of The Times were: Plaschke third in projects; Nathan Fenno third in research; Maria Torres and Mike DiGiovanna celebrated in the latest news; and Robert Jose Andrade Franco, Steve Saldivar and Erik Himmelsbach-Weinstein fourth for video.
