Get out your shorts, slap on the sunscreen and fire up the barbecue – Birmingham is set to be sizzling next week!
The UK is set for a mini heatwave from Tuesday onwards with temperatures expected to soar to almost 30C.
After a week of endless rain and violent thunderstorms, summer is returning and Birmingham is predicted to roast on the hottest day of the year on Wednesday.
Tomorrow (Sunday) is forecast to be rainy but humid, and after that the mercury will cliimb slowly – peaking in a predicted temperature of 29C – 30C on Wednesday and remaining in the high 20Cs all week.
On Monday the Met Office says Birmingham will enjoy highs of 20C, this will rise to 24C by Tuesday and then on Wednesday and Thursday the city will be scorching in temperatures of 28C, 29C and 30C.
But enjoy it while you can because from next Saturday onwards these will plunge back down to 23C, and next weekend the rain is expected to return with temperatures dropping to the low 20Cs.
Met Office forecaster, Martin Young, said: “By the middle of next week we’ll see temperatures across much of England and Wales widely climbing into the mid to high twenties Celsius.
“It will be probably be hot in parts…. as temperatures peak close to 30 Celsius.”
To qualify as a heatwave, temperatures matching or exceeding 25C – 28C (77-82.4F) have to be recorded over three consecutive days. The qualifying temperature depends on location, due to differences in climate across the UK.
