Blunt: 9/11-style Capitol riot commission may delay fixes

Senator Roy Blunt, the No. 4 Senate GOP leader, said Sunday that a proposed bipartisan commission to investigate the Jan. 6 uprising on Capitol Hill may only serve to delay necessary security improvements, causing the political quagmire to emphasize the plan.

In an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, the Missouri Republican downplayed the need to create a new panel modeled on the 9/11 Commission, saying, “Congress itself could move forward and make the necessary changes.”

“It is unlikely that the next thing to worry about will be exactly the last thing to worry about,” he said.
