Virtually every viewer of bodyguard’s first season around the world has been asking the same question for over a year,
Will there be a Bodyguard season 2?
For now, we can only confirm that Season 2 is definitely underway. And why is this even a question? The first season was BBC’s One of the Most Watched Series and the Final Episode was the most watched episode of an American political thriller TV show that gained massive popularity as soon as it launched, making it a worldwide success with 17.1 million times Viewed.
Bodyguard has also won many awards, such as the Golden Globe award for the best television series in drama. Richard Madden also won the golden globe award for best actor in television series.
So when will season 2 be released?
All cast members have unofficially hinted that a second season will be made soon. Additionally, show creator Jed Mercurio has said there may be four seasons before the story is completed, good news right?
When asked about the reason for the delay, show creator Jed Mercurio said he and Richard Madden (David Budd) have been busy for quite some time as he is the lead in another blockbuster series called “Line of duty” through BBC One. To keep us excited about the release, Jed Mercurio and Madden dropped points on “Bodyguard” season 2. In September 2018, Mercurio stated that “just started talking to the BBC about a second season” and over the next month Madden shared his plans to meet with Mercurio about where the show would go from here.

On November 6, 2019, this was Jed Mercurio’s tweet.
Season 1 actor Nicholas Gleaves (Conservative Party Chief Whip Roger Penhaligon) confirmed in an interview with Radio Times: “I spoke to the producer a month ago and he absolutely guaranteed there would be a second series, and he absolutely guaranteed he has no idea when it will be “And so create more mysteries on the release date.
Bodyguard Season 2 Cast: –
The cast of Bodyguard Season 2 has not yet been announced, but our assumption is that the show’s protagonist, Richard Madden (David Budd), will certainly remain unchanged. The show’s writer has already confirmed that David Budd will be back for Season 2.
The show’s other returns include Gina McKee as Commander Anne Sampson, Nina Toussaint White as DS Louise Rayburn, Sophie Rundle as Vicky Budd and Ash Tandon as DCI Deepak Sharma. These characters will likely appear in Season 2.
And there may be discussions about whether or not to take other members, such as Paul Ready as Rob MacDonald, Richard Franklin as Tom Fenton, Vincent Franklin as Mike Travis, David Westhead as John Voster (Prime Minister), Michael Schaeffer as Richard Longcross, Stephanie Hyam as Chanel Dyson, Pippa Haywood as Chief Superintendent Lorraine Craddock, Matt Stokoe as Luke Aikens, Nicholas Gleaves as Roger Penhaligon.
And Keeley Hawes as Julia Montague may or may not make it into Season 2 (read the plot to know the reason).
FLASHBACK TO SEASON ONE: –
SPOILER ALERT !!
As interesting as the first season was, many of us blurred the details of it, so let’s not forget:
SEASON 1 TRAILER
The show is based on a war veteran later portrayed as bodyguard David Budd (Richard Madden), whose job it was to protect Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes). But as with every other show, including Riverdale season 5, this is where the romance between the two starts too, which gets a bit complicated and not to mention she has a threat to her life makes it more exciting to watch. When the Home Secretary begins to fall in love with Budd, she dies (or does she?) In what appears to be a terrorist attack. Meanwhile, Budd has been charged with the murder of his lover Montague. As he begins to prove his innocence, he discovers the conspiracy of police and organized crime boss Luke Aitkens, who wanted to prevent Montague from becoming prime minister.
At the heart of the scandal is the leakage of some incriminating kompromat, forcing both the Prime Minister and the Director General of MI5 to resign. Crime boss Luke Aitkens was also arrested in the final and Budd is acquitted of the murder charge. As a person who has dealt with many heartbreaking situations, David Budd undergoes occupational therapy and reunites with his wife and children.
As a binge watcher, I fell in love with this series when I watched Budd act when he stopped a suicide bomber from blowing up a train. It created tension and pure tension for the viewers. I can’t compare Budd’s acting to anyone, but Rycroft would still give him a tough match. Check out Latest Updates on Carnival Row Season 2 to understand what I’m talking about. And while the remaining series is a bit more fantastic than the great start, it keeps the viewer’s attention all season long. And I think season 2 will be just as exciting as season 1, but what could be the possible plot?
What can we expect?
As of Season 1, we think the ending was pretty happy when Budd reunited with his family, so we might think the story is over, but right?
Because there are still many unresolved cases. For starters, there is no evidence to show that Julia Montague is dead and if she isn’t, she could run for the post of prime minister next season. Season 2 could also see the return of the dark MI5 agent known as “Richard Longcross” who escaped the police force in Season 1.
While we don’t have exact plot details, Richard Madden said in an interview for that season 2 that he won’t just pick up where the first left off. When speaking to the Reporter, he said, “You can’t jump in. David Budd definitely needs a vacation afterward. He’s not going back to work, is he? And he’s also the most famous man in London because of what happens at the end of episode six. He couldn’t get back to work right away … Me and Jed both agree there’s something a lot more interesting in there: ’18 months later, two years later after this happened, let’s catch up with him and say true he now? What happened to him? “
There may be many plots to write down and it depends entirely on the writer to choose that: will he continue with the previous season or will he write a new story where David Budd is guarding another politician or a king, perhaps by order from Joe?
We need to be patient:
All questions will be answered in the near future and I hope Bodyguard Season 2 will also be a blockbuster like the previous one, we just have to wait until we get an official announcement.
