A bride fell dead at her own wedding, leaving her sister behind to marry the groom while the ceremony went on as usual, it was reported.
The bride, known locally as Surbhi, died of a heart attack at the ceremony in Etawah City, Uttar Pradesh.
During the Hindu wedding, she was supposed to marry the groom Manjesh Kumar, but the dead fiancée’s sister instead took the ring at the last minute after the family tragedy
According to the Indo-Asian Intelligence Service (IANS), a doctor rushed to the festivities in the village of Samspura, but was later pronounced dead.
She is believed to have died after exchanging garlands as part of Hindu wedding rituals before collapsing on stage.
Surabhi died of “massive cardiac arrest” that occurred in the middle of the wedding ceremony.
The woman’s brother, Saurabh, reportedly said, “We didn’t know what to do about the situation.
“Both families were sitting together and someone suggested that my younger sister Nisha should be married to the groom.
“The families discussed the matter and both agreed.”
Surbhi’s body was reportedly kept in a separate room during the festivities and was later cremated.
Speaking of which for online mailing one of Surbhi’s uncles, Ajab Singh, said it was a “tough call” for the family to continue the wedding.
He said, “A daughter was dead in one room and another daughter’s wedding was being celebrated in the other room.
“We have never experienced such mixed feelings. The sadness of her death and the happiness of the wedding have not yet prevailed.”
