If you’re anything like us, then you’ve grabbed Bridgerton, the new Netflix period romantic series, very quickly and are currently desperate for longer. However, is there a season two?
Although Bridgerton’s second season has yet to be formally declared, Generation Weekly has recorded that the series has been reviving for a while, with a second season originally scheduled for filming starting in July 2020. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic caused it to happen. that production start date is impossible, with the new start date for filming currently listed as March 2021.
Bridgerton season 2 potential release date
What does this mean for a possible Bridgerton Season 2 release date? Well, Season 1 was filmed between August and November 2019 (via The Bath Echo), for a Christmas 2020 release date. If Season 2 follows the identical production and post-production schedule, then we probably won’t get Bridgerton Season 2 until Christmas 2022. But Netflix originally planned to have more Bridgerton faster, so we could see less of the gap between the filming and season 2 launch than we did with season 1. A Christmas 2021 release seems possible for Bridgerton season 2, or possibly a release date sometime in the beginning of 2022.
What is Bridgerton Season 2 all about?
The Bridgerton book series has a different character / romantic focus for each publication. While the first book, The Duke & I, centers around Daphne Bridgerton and her relationship with Simon, the Duke of Hastings, the next book in the series, The Viscount Who Loved Me, has a different focus: Anthony Bridgerton. Here’s the summary of the book, via Julia Quinn’s official website:
But now the gossip columnists are wrong. Anthony Bridgerton didn’t just get married, he even chose a woman! The only obstacle is his intention’s older sister, Kate Sheffield – the most meddlesome woman to ever grace a London ballroom. The feisty intriguer drives Anthony with her determination to end the engagement, but when he closes his eyes at night, Kate is the woman chasing his increasingly erotic dreams …
Contrary to popular belief, Kate is very convinced that reformed rakes aren’t the best of husbands – and Anthony Bridgerton is the worst clown of them all. Kate is determined to protect her sister, but she fears her own heart is fragile. And when Anthony’s lips touch hers, she’s suddenly afraid she won’t be able to resist the reprehensible rake herself … “
Kate Sheffield’s character did not appear in Bridgerton’s Season 1. Instead, Anthony only had eyes for the opera singer Siena Rosso (Sabrina Bartlett). While the Season 1 finale seemed to end that affair fairly definitively, I wouldn’t trust Siena in Anthony’s life just yet. These two care a lot about each other and while Siena’s season finale that she can’t count on a missing Anthony has been a killer, this season this show has invested a lot of storyline in Anthony and Siena.
Could Siena be Kate Sheffield from Netflix’s Bridgerton?
After Siena’s casting was announced, Quinn noted that she had been a ‘renamed character’. Could Siena be Kate, or rather, would she get any of Kate’s plot? This would be a pretty significant departure from the source material as Kate is a very different personality so we’ll have to wait and see. Regardless, Bridgerton Season 2 will no doubt have a much broader focus than Anthony and his love life. Bridgerton’s first season was more of an outfit story than the first book, and that trend will no doubt continue as the fantastic Netflix series works its way through eight novels of the source material.
