British Airways tests new Covid travel pass

British Airways has started testing a digital travel certificate on flights from Heathrow to Geneva and Zurich in Switzerland.

The IATA Travel Pass is a mobile app that helps travelers store and manage information from Covid tests and vaccines. It can be downloaded to a mobile device directly from the App Store.

After downloading, customers create a secure account and receive entry requirements for their travel destination. British Airways customers can then book a Covid-19 test with an approved provider and the laboratory will automatically upload the results to the app.

The app then checks whether a customer meets the entry requirements for his destination and notifies him of his willingness to travel.

The airline’s parent company, International Airlines Group (IAG), worked closely with IATA to co-develop the app, which is now being successfully piloted by other global airlines, including British Airways’ sister airline Iberia.

Sean Doyle, Chairman and Chief Executive of British Airways, said, “We are committed to finding ways to ensure the customer journey runs as smoothly as possible and are sharing our insights to help the travel industry get started again.

“We know that digital passports are part of the solution and will also play an important role in giving travelers the security they need before they arrive at the airport.
