Brits have become more health-conscious during the pandemic

The British have become more health conscious than ever during the pandemic as more than half of all adults take vitamins and supplements on a daily basis, new research shows.

The most popular is a multivitamin, which is taken by almost two in five people, followed by vitamin D and vitamin C, which is found in citrus fruits.

According to a study by Viridian Nutrition, people over 65 take it almost twice as often as people between the ages of 24 and 64.

The study found that Birmingham is the most health-conscious place in the country, with nearly three-quarters of adults taking supplements at some point, followed by York and Oxford.

The least health conscious place is Aberdeen, where only one in three people take nutritional supplements, closely followed by Southampton and Sheffield.

Aimée Benbow, Director of Nutrition at Viridian Nutrition, said: “Our study seems to show that Covid has raised many millions of people about their health and the importance of keeping our bodies as healthy as possible to give them the best possible chance Fight off infection.

“It also shows that people are becoming more and more aware that they cannot always get the best nutrition they need through diet alone and that they often need a little help.”

The study of 2,000 people also found that one in three adults regularly visits a health food store to buy vitamins and supplements or to get expert advice on diet. Independent health food stores are an indispensable resource in supporting people with healthy eating and healthy lifestyles. You have long advocated the importance of taking care of your mind and body; the abundance of pure, health-promoting ingredients our planet offers – and the need to work in harmony with nature.

The study comes as Virdian is running Indy Health Week October 23-31 to celebrate the country’s independent health businesses and their contribution as the first line of defense to keep us healthy.
