'Brits' party at illegal day-and-a-half NYE rave where police car was torched

Brits teamed up with people from all over France to celebrate an illegal rave for a day and a half.

Brittany reveled in the Lieuron warehouse and attacked police officers trying to shut down the gathering.

Gendarmes halted efforts to end the illegal incident after a car was set on fire and bottles and stones were thrown at it.

A sanitary cord was placed around the venue to prevent more people from attending the illegal New Year celebration.

A gendarme spokesman said on Friday: “There are police controls on the premises.

“Everyone who leaves is warned verbally.”

On Saturday morning, a day and a half after the illegal party began, the last of the 2,500 participants had left the warehouse for good.

Party-goers said the event was attended by people from all over France, as well as the UK and Spain, which is the ideal environment for the coronavirus to spread.

Mass gatherings are currently banned in France, where nearly 65,000 people have died from Covid-19.

There is also a nationwide curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The Lieuron party had a sizeable sound system and DJs

The party lasted until Saturday morning

Interior Ministry spokesman Camille Chaize said on BFM television that there had been “great hostility, great violence” against the police.

An investigation into the rave, which took place in an abandoned warehouse, has now been initiated.

A raver named Jo said the partiers met in a parking lot near a mall on Thursday before heading to Lieuron.

He admitted that “very few had respected social distancing”.

According to Le Monde, people slept in their cars before returning to the party.

French police distributed 450 verbal warnings to people on Saturday morning as the rave was dispersed.

“It brings back good memories!” A woman named Anais told Sky News.

“It had been so long since we did one.

“We hesitated a little before we left, but we did well.”

She said there were fireworks to ring in the new year.

132,000 police officers were dispatched across France on New Year’s Eve.

There is a long tradition of vandalism on New Year’s Eve in France.

Last year, nearly 1,500 cars were burned in the country at the start of 2020.
