The Duchess of Cornwall has been a part of our royal family for years and a part of Prince Charles’ life for decades.
When Charles finally succeeds the Queen as our King and becomes Head of State, she will be there holding his hand.
However, Camilla will never be our queen.
The future of the monarchy has been the subject of much debate recently when Harry and Meghan abandoned their royal duties and the tragic death of Prince Philip.
The Duchess of Cornwall should technically become Queen Consort if Charles succeeds his mother.
Instead, however, it will be known as the Princess Consort.
Camilla was also entitled to be known as the Princess of Wales – but also decided against it – reportedly out of respect for the late Princess Diana.
Who is next on the throne?
Prince Charles is next to the throne, then Prince William. After Prince William, the heir to the throne would be his eldest son, Prince George.
Will Camilla be Queen?
In the British monarchy, a king’s wife is traditionally known as a queen consort.
Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall Camilla tied the knot in 2005.
As Charles’ wife in the future, it would be obvious that Camilla would assume the traditional title of wife of a king and formally become queen consort.
However, at the time of the couple’s marriage, it was decided that Camilla would not be known as Queen Camilla. It is believed that this decision was made out of respect for the late Princess Diana.
So will Kate be queen?
Obviously, Prince William will one day follow in his father’s footsteps.
It is understood that in this case, his wife, Kate, will likely assume the title of consort.
Formally, Kate will likely use her first name in her title and become Queen Catherine.
What will Camilla’s title be when Charles is king?
When Charles and Camilla got married, it was announced that Camilla will assume the new title of Princess Consort if Charles is King.
There has been some speculation over the past few years that this may not be the case and that Camilla is actually known as Queen Camilla.
However, in March 2020, a spokesman for the couple denied that speculation.
Clarence House confirmed that Camilla will still be known as the Princess Consort after Charles is king.
“This was announced at the time of the marriage and absolutely nothing has changed.”
