Care worker lost 3.5 stone after deciding to get healthy for her kids

One caregiver lost more than three and a half stones after deciding to get well for her children.

And Becky Cotterill shared her secrets to losing weight.

The 32-year-old joined her local Slimming World group in June 2019 and hit her first target – – a 3rd loss – – within six months before she changed her destination and lost another half a stone.

Now Becky, of Congleton, Cheshire, says she feels “amazing” after losing 3kg and switching from a height of 16 to 18 to a size 10.

“I was very unhappy and my lifestyle was really unhealthy,” said Becky StokeonTrent Live.

“As women, most of us are always on a diet one minute and then the next and it was me. I remember one day I just sat on the sofa and burst into tears for being like that was unhappy.

“I knew people who were really successful with Slimming World and lost six, seven, eight stones. They always raved about the food, so I decided to give it a try.

“I wanted to be healthier for my kids. My youngest was only two years old when I started, so I wanted to be fit enough to run around with them.

“In my job, I take care of people with learning difficulties and it can be quite physically demanding so I had to be fitter to do it.

“I got engaged last year and am now looking forward to my wedding and honeymoon for which I want to be healthy.”

How did Becky do it? The key worker made sure that she measured everything and that all of her meals were adapted for the Slimming World plan.

“I decided to give up drinking, which helped my weight loss massively and made me feel so much better.

“I love traditional dishes like Bolognese, chilli, stew and what I love about Slimming World is that you can still have all of your favorite dishes.

“My all-time favorite is a Slimming World Chicken Tikka Massala. It’s a bit of a hassle and you have to make it the night before, but it’s delicious – so much better than a takeout.

“I measure everything, all of my healthy perks, even down to the milk I have in every cup of tea. I’ve had weeks brewing a few perks and not measuring the milk, and I claimed and I ask me if that stopped me from losing this week.

“However, it is becoming a habit and second nature to me. I have constantly scaled my kitchen.”

After losing more than three and a half stones, Becky enjoys the benefits of a healthier lifestyle – including one she didn’t expect.

“My partner and I recently got engaged. We are now a family of six with my two girls and his boys. They were all very supportive and the kids always clapped when I came home with a new certificate from the group.

“I’m really happy because they are not fussy and eat a lot of the meals I make for myself. We now eat together as a family and we sit down together every week to plan our meals before I go shopping.

“I like to know that what you eat is good for you. Sometimes you ask me if you can have a banana because they ‘want to be healthy’.

“It’s just good to be able to adjust meals so that I have a lower syn alternative to what they have. The guys and I love making pizza, but they make their own batter and I’ll wrap use.

“In some ways, the change in my lifestyle and health has really brought us closer as a family.

“As women, we’ll always look in the mirror and see something we’d like to change, but now I’m so much happier – I feel amazing.

“I’ve dropped about three sizes and sometimes I try on clothes and look in the mirror and think, ‘Is that really me?’ It’s still hard to get used to.

“I feel a lot livelier and less tired now. Things aren’t as stressful as they were before, and I can run after the kids and keep up with everyone at work.

“I get my 10,000 steps every day easily with work and school, but now we enjoy longer walks, especially in Macclesfield Forest and The Cloud.”

Becky is now interested in maintaining her healthy weight – and she’s shared her top tips for success.

“I always make sure that I write everything down – and measure everything correctly – and now buy my groceries online so that I am not tempted by anything when I go to the supermarket.

“You have to be realistic and know that you will definitely have some goodies. I’m going on my honeymoon next year and then I will have goodies, and there are always birthdays and other celebrations.

“If you don’t have too many expectations, just take a week. Try to go with the flow as much as you can and enjoy the trip because it pays off.

“Anyone can do it. When you walk through those doors or join an online group, your life will change.”
