MEP Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.), Former campaign leader for the House Democrats, announced on Friday that she would resign from Congress after this term.
“As I turn every corner in every decade of my life, I take time to ponder and evaluate what my next chapter might bring,” she said in a statement. “So I decided 10 years ago to run for Congress. And that’s why I announce today that I will not seek re-election after this term is over.”
Bustos represents a district in northwest Illinois that has shifted to the right. Former President Donald Trump won her district twice and she won re-election by a closer margin than expected in 2020.
