Coronavirus: Another 209 people die of COVID-19 in the UK – total reaches 1,228

Another 209 people died in the UK after a positive test for coronavirus, bringing the total to 1,228.

The number counts those who died yesterday at 5 p.m.

One hundred and ninety of those deaths were in England.

Another 10 people died in Wales, bringing the total number of deaths there to 48.

It is because the government has warned that the nationwide blockade could last a “significant” time.

Michael Gove told Sky News that no decision has yet been made on the length of the shutdown, but scientists from Imperial College, who are helping the government advise, suggest it should continue until June.
