A young couple died while crossing the street, holding hands, after being hit by a “drunk” driver on a pedestrian crossing.

Anastasia Zharchenko, 19, and Daniil Sokratov, 22, were only weeks away from marriage when the Cadillac Escalade SUV broke into them and dragged the couple 700 feet.

The horror incident took place in a city near Moscow and was captured with a highway surveillance camera.

Anastasia died of terrible injuries on the scene and her future husband Daniil died of a brain hemorrhage in the ambulance, according to Russian media reports.

A pathologist who forbade the victim’s relatives to see the bodies said all of their bones were broken.

The video from a camera with a view of the intersection shows Anatasia and Daniil holding hands while crossing the highway.

Horrified witnesses reportedly stopped the man from escaping and handed him over to the police, despite allegations that he was drunk at the scene.

According to one source, the Escalade was traveling at speeds well over 100 miles per hour and the tragic couple had no chance of survival, despite paramedics arriving within minutes.

Daniil’s mother, Ludmila Sokratova, told the local media: “They dreamed of living together and made plans for the future.” ‘There is nothing now. No plans. No life.”

The couple were buried together on Monday.

The police have initiated criminal proceedings for “negligent cause of death of two or more people”.

Police spokeswoman Irina Volk commented: “The driver of the vehicle was arrested.”

An investigation is ongoing to determine if the suspect was drunk during the accident.

He faces up to seven years in prison if found guilty.
