Couple built fashion empire from 'nothing' in their council home

A hardworking Yorkshire couple have revealed how they built their fashion empire out of a township.

Sorelle UK, which started out at the couple’s Parson Cross home in Sheffield, is now preparing to open its first store in the Meadowhall Shopping Center later this month.

The online clothing company ships worldwide and has thousands of fans, including Netflix and Love Island stars, Yorkshire Live Reports.

Director Jamie Smedley, who helped his wife build the brand from “nothing,” said they were very excited about the opening.

He explained, “My wife’s nanny took her to Meadowhall shopping on a Saturday, and so did my nanny, so it’s emotional for us.

“Having our first store in Meadowhall is phenomenal. We could have gone to Trafford Center, but as a brand, if we want to grow nationwide and across all outlets now, we want Meadowhall to be our flagship store.”

Sorelle UK was born out of Manuella Mosca’s love of fashion, according to her husband Jamie.

In 2014, the businesswoman visited trunk sales in South Yorkshire, where she found old stock that she could modify and resell.

She quickly gained an iconic following and after just two months, Manuella quit her job as a nightclub promoter and Jamie quit plastering to focus on business.

With every room in their home overflowing with inventory and the company starting to make its own dresses, the couple knew they were on the winning side.

Sorelle UK's first store opens later this month in the Meadowhall Shopping Center.

Jamie said he wasn’t surprised by their success: “With all the sacrifices we’ve made, it has only been one way.”

And he’s proud of how far the two have come since the company was founded.

“We came out of nowhere,” he explained.

Since opening in 2014, Sorelle UK has moved three times and is now looking for a bigger home again.

Last month, Love Island series 4 contestant Rosie Williams announced on social media that she had worn a Sorelle UK dress for her twin’s 30th birthday party.

The company also plans to open stores, which Jamie says will make it one of the first brands to start online and then move to the high street.

He said he looks forward to bringing customers a traditional shopping experience and that the store is needed as they keep getting calls from people desperate to pick up something during the day.

But now all South Yorkshire fashionistas can stop by whenever they want.

Jamie hopes Sorelle UK will be a welcome addition to the mall.

“Sheffield has nothing like our brand,” he said.

The director considers the company’s authenticity to be the key to their success, as they never sell anything that his wife would not carry herself.

Jamie was also full of praise for his hardworking wife.

He said she never stops working and even flies to international meetings when she was due with her son.

Jamie said, “It’s amazing how much she does.

“And it’s a lot of hard work, but it’s worth it.”
