Couple red-faced as strangers keep mistaking them for mother and daughter

A lesbian couple claims they are often red in the face because strangers mistake them for mother and daughter – even though there is only a year between the two.

Whitney and Megan Bacon-Evans, 33 and 34 respectively, admit they feel insecure at times, as the “terrible” mix-up can lead them to question their age.

The Windsor, Berkshire couple say it led to many awkward situations, including delivery men asking if Whitney’s “mother is home,” and it even happened while they were out to get married.

The duo, who now work as full-time influencers, turned those “embarrassing” moments into an opportunity to make fun of themselves on their TikTok account – with 1.8 million likes and almost 90,000 followers.

Whitney joked about the mistake and even jokingly called her partner “mom” and the two movie clips in which she knelt and nudged Megan while she said, “sorry mom”.

Megan said, “It feels awful when it happens because I don’t want to look old enough to be my wife’s mom. It’s very strange.

“It is embarrassing to be confused with mother and daughter.

“There have been a couple of personal experiences where it happened, but we also get comments on TikTok from people who say, ‘Oh my god, I thought you were a mother and a daughter.’

“I really got down there because all these people were freaking out on TikTok.

“It also happened when we got married in California. We were in a clothing store and the woman at the checkout said, ‘Oh, are you both a mother and a daughter?’

“We had to say ‘Uh, no, we’re getting married next week’. She didn’t even apologize, she just said ‘Oh’. Then we asked who she thought the mother was and she pointed to me.

“It wasn’t like she was embarrassed. I didn’t know if she thought we were going to get married as a mother and daughter, I didn’t quite get it.”

While Megan has to wonder if she looks old enough to be the mother of her other half, Whitney has found with a fresh face that delivery men will ask her if her “mother is home”.

Whitney, who married Megan in Palm Springs, California, USA in September 2017, said: “I don’t want to look young enough to be mistaken for a child. I am a 33 year old woman, I want to look like a woman.

The couple had to prove that they are not mother and daughter

“About a month ago a delivery man knocked on the door and I answered without makeup. They asked me if my mother was home.

“I’m glad I’m aging gracefully, but at least I want to look grown up. I’m a young woman in my thirties, I don’t want to look like a kid.

“I think it’s hilarious. I’m sure if the tables were turned I wouldn’t find it so funny.

“I feel for Megan though because I’m sure it bothers her deep down inside. It’s an awkward situation, however, when we have to answer, ‘No, we are wife and wife.’ It can be a real eye opener for them Be people. ” .

“It’s crazy that people think we’re mothers and daughters when we coordinate our outfits a lot – how many mothers and daughters dress alike?

“We also have people who ask if we are sisters or twins. It’s still uncomfortable, but not as bad as mother and daughter.

“We get uncomfortable reactions from people who are ashamed and say, ‘I’m so sorry, I was wondering what your connection was’.

“Though they often just look at us and think, ‘Well … that was really embarrassing’.

“When we go to a new place, it happens. Sometimes it happens five times a week.

“I think it happens a lot with gay couples. I think people just have to start asking, ‘How do you know each other?'”

The couple made fun of the unfortunate mistake on their TikTok, where they are making videos for their 90,000 followers pointing out the misunderstanding.

The couple is married

Megan said, “I think Whitney immediately saw the humor in the situation as she later called me ‘mom’.

“It’s ridiculous because you can’t believe it, you have to laugh about it. If there was a huge age difference we would understand.

“And I wonder if I look 50, or is it the fact that Whitney looks really young – do I look like a young mother in her 30s?

“We bring it up in our videos on TikTok because we feel like we really need to make fun of it now.

“We just laugh about it, and while we laugh about it, we can raise awareness. TikTok is a great platform for making fun of yourself while getting your point across.

“It’s just wild how many comments we get sometimes when people think we’re related.

“I know people don’t mean it, but deep down I worry about how old I look.”

Some commentators have expressed shock at the notion that the couple could be mistaken for blood relatives.

One user wrote, “How can people not see what a beautiful couple you are making ?!

Another commenter said, “I was a year younger than my ex-wife and was constantly mistaken for her mother …

Another user said: “Mother and daughter, wtf.”

Other commentators drew the wrong conclusions.

One wrote: “You look like twins!”

Another said, “You’re probably 26 and 27, but you look like you could pass for 18 and 30. They’re both beautiful, please don’t take offense, I love you both.”

Another user said: “You look like mother and daughter”, while another commented: “Your mother is beautiful.”

One commenter admitted her mistake and wrote, “Oops, thought you were mother and daughter, sorry.”
