A couple who teamed up with an all-vegan dating app during the pandemic are celebrating the birth of their first baby, which they also plan to raise on a plant-based diet.

Baby Elise was born on July 8th and was the first known child whose parents were brought together by the vegan and vegetarian dating app Veggly.

Her parents Fabio and Danielle, who both have a plant-based diet, already agreed in the app in May 2020.

And today the couple who live in São Paulo, Brazil shared the news of the addition to the family.

Danielle said the couple were “overjoyed” and she was grateful to the creators of the dating app for bringing them together.

“Our dreams have come true and we are overjoyed to welcome Elise into the world,” she said.

“It can be so difficult to find a vegan or vegetarian partner – without the app I would not have met Fabio, especially since we used to live almost 15 km away from each other.

“Without our ‘Veg Match’ we wouldn’t be here with Elise in our arms.”

Fabio shared Danielle’s opinion and said it could be difficult, especially in countries like Brazil, to find other vegans and vegetables who share her values.

“And there is no place to meet people like that – there is no special hangout like a nightclub, so it is very difficult to get into a relationship with a vegan / vegetarian person,” she said.

“When you are a vegan / vegetarian and you are with a meat eater, it is so hard to find a dinner place that caters for vegans and meat eaters together – it will always be a struggle for these people.”

Fabio said it was “wonderful” to meet Danielle.

“She brings light into my life and we are so happy to have Elise in our lives now,” he said.

Veggly founder Alex Felipelli said it was a “dream come true” when he heard of Danielle and Fabio’s connection and the birth of Elise.

“I know that it can sometimes be difficult to find a vegan partner in this world – I’ve been there myself in the past!” He said.

“But it’s worth it, and it certainly helps to have a platform that connects us with like-minded people.”
