A couple who played Maria and Josef in their primary school day care center married 30 years later.
Rose Childerhouse, 38, and James Macpherson, 40, tied the knot with friends and family – some who were in the audience at their children’s game.
The couple attended Sixpenny Handley First School in Dorset and were selected to star in the nativity play in the early 1990s.
Buyer Rose had a crush on her older co-star, but advertising manager James said he took on the biblical character to impress another girl.
The couple dated briefly again while studying at Westminster University in London before Rose left James for the lead singer of a band.
But in 2017, a chance meeting between buyer Rose and advertising manager James during an evening out in London led to a true romance.
James Rose asked the question three years ago and was able to walk down the aisle near her family home in Farnham, Dorset on Saturday with lockdown restrictions.
The newlywed Rose said, “I had a crush on James at school, so it was a bit embarrassing when he was cast as Joseph.
“Even though I had a crush on him, I didn’t think I would marry him!
“It feels like it took a long time, but it was worth the wait.”
James said, “It’s really special when you think about it.
“Our parents were in the audience for the play along with my aunt, my uncle and my sister and were guests at our wedding!
“You were there from the start.
“I can’t remember much, but I had a crush on another girl at school and I didn’t have a speaking role, which made me quite annoyed and excited.
“When we started dating, I remember going to the family house and Rose’s mother saying, ‘Do you remember the nativity play at school?’ and then it clicked.
“I said, ‘Oh my God, we were Mary and Joseph, weren’t we?’
“Then she took out the photo album to show us these pictures.
“We all noticed that.”
The couple are now enjoying their honeymoon in Athens, Greece and have started their IVF journey.
James added, “I proposed to Rose for her mother and father’s wedding anniversary.
“It was actually in the garden of her family home behind the apple tree that we played around with as kids.
“When we tell people about it, it is always a source of tenderness.
“They say ‘You’re kidding’ and tell us what a beautiful story it is.
“It’s been a crazy couple of years and neither of us thought this would happen.
“It is a dream come true.”
