“I don’t know who else was involved, but I think if the record goes back and people see what I wrote daily that was sent to the White House leadership, they will see that – that was I was very specific what I saw and what had to be done, ”she said.
Birx said she took “detailed notes” of every meeting at the White House and wrote more than 310 daily reports that were sent to senior executives. When asked in the interview whether Trump had read the reports, Birx said she was not sure.
“I had very little contact with President Trump,” she said.
In his Covid-19 response, Trump frequently broke scientific instructions from health officials in his own administration. He downplayed the threat from the virus from the beginning of the pandemic, and as the death toll rose, Trump continued to refuse to wear a mask – even while holding large campaign rallies with thousands of supporters.
