Delhi police sealed off a large area of Nizamuddin on Monday where several people were showing symptoms of coronavirus after attending a religious meeting a few days ago, an official said.
The gathering of about 200 people was organized without the authorization of the authorities, said the police.
“After we learned that such an event had been organized, we informed them of a violation of the prohibition orders and the restrictions imposed because of the blocking to contain the spread of the coronavirus,” said a senior police official.
“Several people were taken to hospital after showing symptoms of coronavirus and were tested,” said the official.
Earlier this month, the Delhi government banned religious, social, cultural and political gatherings and demonstrations by more than 50 people until March 31 due to the coronavirus epidemic.
Nationwide restrictions were also placed on the movement of people for 21 days from Wednesday to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.
Police use drones for surveillance to verify any violations.
