A doctor has claimed that a simple change in a patient’s fingernails could indicate that they already had Covid-19.
Dr. Karan Raj, who has more than a million followers on TikTok, regularly posts videos and life hacks covering everything from sleeping tips to bizarre medical facts.
In a recent video, the doctor said a condition called Beau’s Lines can show whether a patient has experienced infection or trauma, and that scientists have reported that it is common in people recovering from coronavirus mirror Reports ..
The post shows a picture of a person’s fingernails with a white line running horizontally across the width of the nail with a protruding ridge. However, the doctor reminds the viewer that this can be caused by a variety of factors and is not an accurate test.
The doctor clarified in the comments that it could have many causes and advises the best way to do an antibody test to see if Covid-19 was present.
Dr. Raj says, “If you have something like this on your nails, it could be a sign that you have had Covid. Scientists have found that patients who have recovered from Covid leave a clear or white horizontal line that is a distinctive one Point leaves burr on the nails.
“It’s known as Beau’s Lines and occurs when nail growth is temporarily interrupted when the body has an infection. It’s actually pretty harmless and can be caused by any disease or trauma to the body, not just Covid.

The video was viewed more than 1.6 million times and provoked 1,800 comments when Dr. Raj responded to concerns that the lines were caused by an iron or zinc deficiency, to reiterate that this can be caused by a variety of factors, including Covid-19.
He added, “The lines can remain for a few weeks / months after infection, but then disappear as the nail grows.”
