Dog owner builds memorial to lost pet on beach and leaves heartbreaking note

A grieving pet owner left a tearful memorial full of tennis balls on a beach after the death of his dog.

The balls are in a wooden basket on Silver Sands Beach in South Australia as a tribute to ‘Bruce’ and explain why they are there.

There’s also an adorable snap of Bruce storming out of the ocean with the note inviting dog walkers to grab a tennis ball for their visit – and return it for the next dog to be tracked. Star Online Reports.

A poster on the back of the basket reads: “In loving memory of Bruce.

“Please help yourself to a tennis ball that your dog can enjoy.

“You may want to put it back in the box later so another dog can play with it. If you want to keep it, that’s fine too!”

“Remember, like your dog, live every moment with unconditional love, loyalty, and happiness.”

A picture of the original memorial was shared online, resulting in tributes to Bruce and messages of comfort for its owner.

One person commented, “Oh how lovely that is. Sleep peacefully Bruce and condolences and love for your family.”

“RIP Bruce, if your people did this in your memory, you must have had a wonderful life,” wrote another.

Another said, “I hope Bruce hunts balls in dog heaven. I also hope that his owners will find peace knowing that they have touched so many people with their gesture.”

“Such a beautiful homage to Bruce,” responded one admirer of the monument.
