Duchess of Cambridge gets her first Covid vaccine jab

The Duchess of Cambridge has received her first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, following in the footsteps of her husband who was followed earlier this month.

A photo of Kate, who was injected on Friday, was posted to Kensington Palace’s Twitter account on Saturday afternoon.

In an accompanying message, the Duchess said: “Yesterday I received my first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at the Science Museum in London.

“I am very grateful to everyone involved in the rollout – thank you for everything you are doing.”

39-year-old Kate, wearing a face mask, white vest and jeans, was portrayed with a poke in the left arm.

Responding to the Kensington Palace tweet, Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who was also encountered at the Science Museum, replied: “In the past fortnight, more than half of people in their thirties have been vaccinated.

“Delighted HRH The Duchess of Cambridge was able to get her push at the Science Museum.”

It comes after the Duke of Cambridge received his first engraving from NHS staff at the Science Museum earlier this month.

William had previously spoken for the vaccine and welcomed the “monumental” success of the Covid-19 sting program.

The Duke had signed a contract with Covid-19 last spring and was able to continue working over the phone and online while being treated by royal doctors. However, he was reportedly hit “pretty hard” by the virus and at one point had difficulty breathing.

The Queen and Prince of Wales are among the other members of the royal family who need to be vaccinated as the introduction of bumps reaches millions of people across the country.

In England, more than 32 million people were vaccinated with a first dose, nearly three-quarters of the total adult population, while more than 20 million people received both doses.

In England and Scotland, people over the age of 30 are being asked to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The Covid-19 vaccination program in Northern Ireland is open to everyone aged 18 and over, while in Wales the invitation is open to everyone over the age of 18.
