Duke of York’s lawyers issue firm denial of Virginia Giuffre’s sex abuse claims

Attorneys for the Duke of York attempt to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Virginia Giuffre, the king saying he “clearly denies” sexually abusing or assaulting her.

Ms. Giuffre has claimed she was sold by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the Duke’s former boyfriend, to have sex with Andrew when she was 17 years old and a minor under US law.

The allegations, which Andrew has repeatedly denied, were labeled “false” in a document filed with a district court on Friday, which added that the Duke’s “tainted reputation is just the latest collateral damage in the Epstein scandal.”

Epstein, a disgraced financier, died in a Brooklyn prison in 2019 when he was charged with underage sex trafficking in Florida and New York.

The document, signed by Attorney Andrew Brettler, states: “An allegation of serious misconduct by a member of the world’s most famous royal family has helped Giuffre create a media hype online and in the traditional press.

“It is unfortunate, but it cannot be denied, that greed for sensation and innuendo have triumphed over the truth.

“Giuffre has brought this unsubstantiated lawsuit against Prince Andrew to get another payday at his own expense and at the expense of his close relatives. Epstein’s abuse of Giuffre does not justify her public campaign against Prince Andrew. “

Ms. Giuffre is suing the Queen’s son for alleged sexual assault on her as a teenager and seeking unspecified damages.

The file states that Ms. Giuffre resolved the sex trafficking and abuse complaints against Epstein in 2009 with a negotiated “broad release” from the convicted sex offender, “which insists that it cover all individuals Giuffre may have as potential future targets Has identified complaints regardless of merits ”. – or lack thereof – for such claims ”.

The agreement, which remains sealed, is supposed to cover “royalties” according to the filing on Friday, and so “the court must dismiss your claims here in light of the plaintexts of the release agreement.”

It added, “Virginia Giuffre could well have been a victim of sexual abuse by Jeffrey Epstein, and nothing can excuse or fully capture the loathing and gravity of Epstein’s monstrous behavior towards Giuffre, if it does.

“However, without mitigating the damage caused by Epstein’s alleged wrongdoing, Prince Andrew never sexually abused or assaulted Giuffre.

“He clearly denies Giuffre’s false accusations against him.”
