Education secretary urges schools to remain open

The Omicron variant has led to an increase in Covid cases across the country. Cardona admitted that short-term staff shortages due to the pandemic could lead to some short-term school closings in the coming weeks.

“I think there will be bumps on the road, especially tomorrow,” he said.

Cardona said vaccinations and tests are still the best protective measures for school-age children.

“Where vaccination numbers are high, there is less interference,” he said.

The Minister of Education said that not only the children benefit from personal learning.

“It is vital for them, for our communities, and for our parents to keep them in school,” he said.
