A beauty fan vowed to stick with “drawing” on her eyebrows after two horror reactions to home tint kits revealed that her face was twice the size and looked like she had been “beaten up”.

Troubling photos reveal Stephanie Davies’ entire face increased in size after she reportedly dyed her eyebrows twice with Eylure and Colorsport products.

The 20-year-old said she’d used the Eylure Dybrow permanent tint on dark brown brows with no problems for a year, so didn’t patch test before topping up her tint.

The mental health worker was initially happy with the results, but claims her eyebrows itched within hours.

Stephanie said she woke up the next day with a badly swollen and burned face and her eyes were crying “goosebumps” – she needed steroids and antibiotics from her family doctor.

The reaction was so extreme that her then manager reportedly ordered her to go home for fear of “scaring customers”.

After avoiding hues at home for two years after the initial reaction in July 2018, Stephanie decided last week to try another product in hopes that it would be a negative reaction to that brand.

Stephanie hit on Colorsports Diva 30 Day Brow Dye last Sunday but got a similar reaction and called 111 when an operator suggested taking allergy pills.

Beauty lover Stephanie talks about her ordeal to make sure no one suffers like her and urges people to always do patch testing, even if they have previously used a brand.

Eylure and Colorsport recommend that all customers perform a patch test at least 48 hours prior to application, even if they have previously used the product.

Stephanie from Cefn Hengoed, Swansea said, “My face has doubled in size, it looked like I was beaten up.

“I didn’t recognize myself – I looked like a completely different person, it was awful.

“I had to open my eyelids because they were down and my eyebrows felt rock hard and brittle, and some hair was falling off.

“I love beauty, I always wear eyelashes and makeup, but I couldn’t go out for a week, I wouldn’t go out like this.

“I went to work in the morning after tinting my eyebrows with sunglasses.

“When I took them off, I remember my manager [at previous my job] say ‘you can’t work today Stephanie you will scare the customers’. “

Stephanie got her eyebrows tinted in a salon, but about three years ago she decided to do it herself.

Stephanie has been using the Eylure product every month for a year to color her eyebrows with no problem.

In July 2018, Stephanie opened a new pack of the product around 7 p.m., applied it, and was fine for the rest of the evening.

A few hours later, when Stephanie was in bed, she was plagued by itchy eyebrows but wiped them off.

It wasn’t until the next morning, when Stephanie couldn’t open her eyes, that she panicked.

Stephanie said, “I put it on one night and I was fine. I itched through the night but didn’t think about it.

“The next morning I couldn’t open my eyes and it got goose bumps, like conjunctivitis.

“My face swelled so badly and all of my ears and neck were sore.

“I got really upset and started crying. After being sent home from work, I called my doctor and had to have heavy steroids to lower my face.

“It took me a good week to go under and I wouldn’t go out [like that] I couldn’t even go for a walk with my dog Caesar. “

Stephanie avoided eyebrow tint kits at home for a little over two years until she decided last week to try a different brand.

Stephanie said: “Before the first allergic reaction, I liked to have my eyebrows raised because they looked so good.

“I raised my eyebrows at home recently, this time I used a different brand. I just thought I’d try.

“I was fine for about three hours, but then the same thing happened again, it started to itch and I swelled up again.

“I remember thinking, ‘Oh God, it’ll happen again’ but luckily it wasn’t nearly as bad this time.

“I called 111 and the operator suggested I take Piriton immediately.”

Since the second allergic reaction, Stephanie has vowed never to dye her eyebrows again and instead used an eyebrow pencil.

Stephanie said, “It kept me from coloring my eyebrows for a lifetime. I will never do them again, I will stick to drawing them in the future.

“I would tell anyone who’s got their eyebrows to do a patch test 48 hours in advance as it can take a while to get a reaction.”

An Eylure spokesman said, “We always recommend that you do a patch test 48 to 72 hours before any dye application stated on our packaging, even if you are a regular user.”

A Colorsport spokesperson said: “We are disappointed to see that one of our customers has responded to the eyebrow tinting.

“Our products are fully tested and comply with European regulation 1223/2009.

“We encourage our customers to perform a 48-hour skin sensitivity test prior to application, even if they have previously used brow dye. Instructions are always included.

“When a customer has a query or problem with one of our products, our contact information is easy to find and we are more than willing to offer advice or assistance.”
