Fauci: AstraZeneca needs to 'straighten out' vaccine data

Federal health officials are questioning AstraZeneca’s vaccine data just hours after the company announced the shot was safe and effective, leading the drug maker to promise updated data within two days.

The National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases said in a rare statement late Monday that its Data and Safety Monitoring Committee, the independent body that oversees studies of coronavirus vaccines, fears AstraZeneca had included “out of date information” in an announcement of which the 79 percent of his shot touted will be effectiveness against the virus.

The DSMB “wrote a pretty harsh note” to AstraZeneca, copied by NIAID director – and Biden medical advisor – Anthony Fauci, it told Robin Roberts of Good Morning America on Tuesday. “They felt that the data in the press release was a little out of date and could indeed be a little misleading and wanted them to correct it.”
