First case of Covid and flu merging to form 'flurona' reported

A young woman in Israel is the first person to be diagnosed with “flurona” – a mixture of coronavirus and influenza.

The case was found in a pregnant woman at Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva. reports the Express.

The patient was not vaccinated and the hospital’s results showed that both the flu and the Covid-19 pathogens were present at the same time.

The woman presented with relatively mild symptoms of the disease.

Local press reports report that the Israeli Ministry of Health is studying the results of the combination of the two infections to see if it could lead to a more serious illness.

Israelio experts say several other patients were infected with the two viruses but undiagnosed.

Professor Arnon Vizhnitser, Director of the Department of Gynecology of the Hospitals, said: “Last year we did not see any flu cases in pregnant or giving birth women.

“Today we see both coronavirus and flu cases starting to raise their heads. We are seeing more and more pregnant women with flu.

“Dealing with a woman who has a fever at birth is definitely a tough challenge. This is especially the case if you don’t know if it’s coronavirus or flu, so refer to it right away. Most Diseases are respiratory diseases. “

Mr. Vizhnitser added that the patient did not have any unusually severe symptoms.

He added, “She was diagnosed with flu and coronavirus immediately upon arrival. Both tests were positive even after we checked again.

“The disease is the same disease; they are viral and cause breathing difficulties as both affect the upper respiratory tract.”
