Former election cybersecurity chief: Trump can redeem himself by resigning

Krebs, who headed CISA in the Department of Homeland Security, was fired by Trump in November after refuting the president’s claims that the presidential election had been rigged.

Trump is facing increasing pressure to leave office early. Several Republicans in Congress are calling for his resignation, including Sens. Pat Toomey and Lisa Murkowski.

“I think the best way for our country … is for the president to step down and leave as soon as possible,” Toomey (R-Pa.) Said Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press.

The calls follow last week’s deadly Capitol riot, instigated by Trump after months of falsely claiming the election was stolen from him. After the events of last week, the Democrats are preparing again for impeachment proceedings for Trump.

“I don’t know if he is able to do this, but it is the best way to prevent further violence and prevent further erosion of trust in democracy over the next four years,” said Krebs on the Sunday of resignation Trump.

“And every single Republican on the hill who continues to support these electoral irregularities must do the same. They must denounce it and go back to the center,” he added.
