Five people – including four children – were killed in an attack in a house in Noisy-le-Sec in the northern suburbs of Paris.
French reports suggest that the victims are all from the same family.
Police are investigating the attack in Seine-Saint-Denis that left five dead or dying and injured five others.
The dead included a woman and four children – and five people wounded by knives, including three serious, report Le Dauphine.
Police reportedly arrived at around 11 a.m. on Saturday and found two dead and many more wounded.
They also found a knife and hammer on site.
Two people were pronounced dead on arrival, and three more died within an hour and a half, despite the efforts of emergency services.
A person seriously injured and unconscious at the scene is treated as a suspect and taken to hospital for treatment.
The alleged perpetrator was taken to the Beaujon hospital in Clichy for treatment Act 17.
The news site reports that all of the deceased were believed to be from the same family.
Their bodies were found in various rooms around the house.
