He is then taken in by his sole 31st century descent, named an elderly scientist Professor Farnsworth whose cargo delivery service employs one-eyed Captain Leela, accountant Hermes, intern Amy, robot Bender and lobsterlike lookalike ‘doctor’ Zoidberg.

Futurama has been nominated for 12 Emmy Awards and is regularly voted one of the best animated comedy series ever created.

When is Futurama coming back?

No concrete date has been given, but it has been confirmed Futurama will return at some point during 2023. Voice recording is yet start and casting has only just begun.

What channel is Futurama on?

Futurama will be broadcast in the United States on Hulu, but in the UK will be available to stream on Disney+.

Why isn’t John DiMaggio on the new series of Futurama?

Original series cast members Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and David Herman have all agreed to rejoin the series reboot.

However, fans have threatened to boycott the series if fan favorite John DiMaggio is not recast as Bender.

Taking to Twitter to calm fan fears, DiMaggio said: “Thanks for the concern and the props, everyone. I really appreciate it. Don’t worry, I’ll keep you posted, but until then… CHEESE IT! #bendergate”

It has been reported that both Hulu and DiMaggio are keen to come to an agreement.

When the show was re-commissioned by Comedy Central in 2008, there was a similar contract standoff that was eventually resolved.
