A German man on trial over the death of his British millionaire heiress has admitted to strangling her with a towel while having sex, but denies killing her for her fortune.
When Dirk W. appeared in front of a courtroom in Lugano, Switzerland, in Ticino on Monday, Dirk W. told the court how he had sex with 22-year-old Anna Florence Reed on the bathroom floor when he put a hand in a towel around his neck.
“Then I pressed it with my hands like we had done a hundred times before. Suddenly she stopped moving, her tongue sticking out. I tried to revive her, ”he said.
Ms. Reed from North Yorkshire was found dead on April 9, 2019 in the Hotel La Palma au Lac, a four-star hotel by the lake in the southern Swiss municipality of Muralto.
The defendant, also referred to as Marc Schatzle or Marc S in some reports on the case, claims her death was the result of a sex game gone wrong.
The prosecution assumes that he murdered the young woman in order to acquire her property.
Her credit card, missing at the time of her death, was found in the ceiling of the hotel elevator four months after the alleged crime.
The defendant told the court he placed it there as a prank after his girlfriend complained that she always paid for everything.
The court heard the couple consumed alcohol and cocaine and had an argument the night before their death.
During the trial, the judge asked him detailed questions about her sex life on the day Ms. Reed died and how they ended up playing the strangulation game.
However, the defendant was unable to answer many of the questions due to the distance in time, also because he was very drunk at the time.
His lack of memory of the events of the night coupled with his lifestyle of sleeping with hundreds of women over the years and leading a VIP lifestyle without worrying about his obligations to his two children were key points that were taken into account in this case.
The court also criticized the prosecutor’s case because of the failure of the investigators to determine the exact time of death of the young woman when she called the crime scene.
The judicial process continues.
