Two surgeons shared graphic photos of a huge 22-pound tumor being removed from a patient’s stomach.

Arnab Mukherjee, 45, had been complaining of severe abdominal pain for more than two months, but claims the doctors initially failed to discover the tumor – until it quadrupled.

After consulting with doctors at Victoria Medical Center, it was discovered that the musician from Kolkata, India, had a 22-pound malignant tumor that was the size of two rugby balls.

He was referred to Lions Hospital, where Dr. Makhan Lal Saha and his daughter Priyanka Saha performed life-saving surgery on October 2 and removed the tumor in a four-hour operation.

Dr. Makhan said, “It was a very critical and rare case. The tumor was not discovered in the very first step. It took several tests to understand what it was.

“The patient’s life was in danger because the tumor was so large.”

A team of two surgeons helped remove the cancerous tumor known as retroperitoneal sarcoma.

Although the surgery was a success, Arnab now needs further cancer treatment.

Dr. Makhan said, “The patient is stable and is given liquid food every two to three days.

“The removal took almost four hours. It was a life-saving operation. We successfully removed the tumor and no other organ was damaged or removed.

“Because the tumor was malignant, it will now be receiving chemotherapy and other cancer-related drugs.”

Sarcoma is a rare cancer that develops in connective tissue such as muscles, bones, nerves, cartilage, tendons, blood vessels, and adipose and fiber tissues.

Retroperitoneal sarcomas occur in the retroperitoneum – which is located deep in the abdomen (abdomen) and pelvis behind the abdominal wall, where organs such as the large blood vessels, kidneys, pancreas, and bladder are located.

The main types of treatment are surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, Sarcoma UK explained.

After treatment, patients need regular follow-up appointments for several years.
