A 10-year-old girl was found shivering in a forest next to her lifeless mother after they went for a walk together.

Little Polina had sat all night next to her mother Olga Davydova, who had died of hypothermia.

She was found after a search operation involving 80 volunteers, police sniffer dogs, drones and a helicopter was started.

The frightened girl was about five miles from where they were last seen in the Vladimir region of Russia, in the bear-infested forest.

She received first aid and warm clothing before she was taken to the hospital.

The Russian investigative committee said: “The child’s life and health are currently not in danger.”

On October 24, the girl and her mother had gone out for a daytime walk and removed clothing that was suitable for the sub-zero night temperatures.

A search was started and they were found on October 25th.

Davydova was desperate about the recent death of her mother Svetlana Pankova (58), a paramedic, from Covid-19.

Until her death, grandmother Polina mainly raised her, said a local official.

Now the girl has no one to raise her, officials added.

Senior local official Alexei Sokolov said, “We will decide later on the issue of establishing a guardianship for the girl.”

He told reporters, “The search was serious, we only had a few hours. Everyone understood that they had to search faster.

“There was frost, minus degrees. We feared for the child’s life. “

The investigation into the circumstances of the woman’s death is ongoing.

It is not currently known why the couple decided to take a walk in the forest despite sub-zero temperatures.

Between September and October the Vladimir region reaches an average sub-zero temperature of -3.5 ° C, with lows of down to -7 ° C over the years, Weather atlas explained.

In January it gets even colder with an average temperature of -11.3 ° C.
