A teenage girl in Australia has been arrested after a child was found with her throat slit and words carved into her body.
Police are investigating the grisly discovery in a countryside property in Gunnedah, a tiny town of fewer than 10,000 people.
The 10-year-old girl died shortly after emergency services were called to the farm in the northeastern New South Wales countryside, about 270 miles northwest of Sydney.
A 14-year-old girl has been arrested in connection with the death of the younger child believed to be her cousin, reports the Daily Telegraph.
The teen was located by police at the farm near where the young girl’s mutilated body was found.
Emergency services called to the farm at about 7am local time on Wednesday to reports the younger girl had serious lacerations, according to the Mail Online.
She died at the scene.
Police have confirmed the two girls were known to one another to local media.
Officers arrested the 14-year-old girl nearby a short time later and took her to Gunnedah Police Station to be interviewed.
Oxley Police District have established a crime scene and opened an investigation.
Detectives have been combing the farm today as investigations continue, the Northern Daily Leader reported.
The 14-year-old remains in police custody.
The death took place during the school holidays in the Australian state.
