A young girl seriously injured after a knife stab last year is reunited with the two police officers who saved her life.
Seven-year-old Noura was invited to an event with the Duke of Cambridge on Emergency Services Day, held annually, to thank members of the emergency services and the NHS.
Noura thanked PC Ryan Legge and PC Ahmet Mavitunali for providing their emergency life-saving treatment when their father brutally attacked them at his Brent home last year.
On May 22, 2020, officials responded to concerns about the welfare of a man and his young daughter.
The man’s family in Austria received an electronic photo of the two with serious injuries.
Concerned, they contacted a family friend in London who contacted the police.
They couldn’t confirm the exact address, just one block of flats on Larch Road NW2.
The officers rushed to the scene. They forced access to several apartments until they found the man and then six-year-old Noura.
They quickly discovered that Noura had sustained significant stab wounds to her neck and chest.
Without the quick comprehension and first aid of the officers, Noura probably would not have survived.
She was taken to the hospital in severe condition and stayed there for three months until she slowly recovered from her injuries.
Doctors initially feared Noura would suffer severe neurological brain damage, but since then she has made a full recovery and is really doing well.
Noura was passed out when Legge and Mavitunali from PC were giving her life-saving help, so she had never actually seen her.
North West BCU Commander Sara Leach said: “I am very proud of Ahmet and Ryan, whose actions on the ground were instrumental in helping Noura in this sad and shocking case.
“This was a violent attack on a young girl by someone who should have been looking after her. It is quite right that the two officers should be recognized for their quick wits in extremely worrying circumstances. They, along with Noura, should be commended for their courage and resilience.
“It is really something special that Noura and the officers can meet at this event, and it is sure to be an emotional moment for everyone.”
Noura’s father, who was also found at the address with self-inflicted stab wounds, was taken to hospital in serious condition.
After recovering, he was arrested and charged with attempted murder. He was imprisoned for 22 years.
