Two 15-year-old girls were allegedly raped at a resort after meeting three young men on a popular beach on New Year’s Eve, police said.
One of the girls was in a “half-naked” and “desperate” state when she went to the concierge for help, investigators said.
Three men, aged 22, were questioned by detectives on suspicion of rape and sexual assault before they were released pending further investigation.
Police said three girls met the three men on Thursday night on the beach in Surfers Paradise, a seaside resort on Queensland’s gold coast in eastern Australia.
Two of the girls said they had been raped.
Acting Chief Superintendent Geoff Sheldon said abc news that at least one of the 22-year-old men would be charged.
He said, “A 15-year-old girl came to the concierge in a half-naked state, in a desperate state, and the police were called.
“Research into this found that three girls, all 15, were on the beach and met three young people and went back into the room.
“At this stage there appears to be at least one rape related to the attack on these girls.”
Mr Sheldon said the investigation was in the early stages but it is believed that two of the girls were allegedly assaulted.
After meeting on the beach, the girls went with the men to the unit where the men stayed at the holiday park.
Mr. Sheldon added, “It’s basically downhill from there.
“I think it was one of those alcoholic incidents that had a very, very serious consequence for everyone involved.”
A rape lawsuit is expected on Friday, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.
The men were released after more information about the alleged incident emerged, the report added.
According to the newspaper, the men offered a version of events that prompted police to investigate further.
