Good morning Kate Garraway from the UK has admitted she “has problems” as a single parent while her husband Derek Drapaer remains in hospital with Covid-19.
The moderator’s partner was admitted to the intensive care unit in March last year after positive tests and has not left the hospital since then.
Even though he was free of Covid a few months later, Derek is still battling the effects.
And Kate has tried homeschooling Darcey, 14, and Billy, 11, and playing roles on television and radio. reports the mirror.
She said, “I’m not sure I can handle this! I honestly don’t know how single mothers do it. It’s just so hard
“Most of the time I think,” What would Derek say? “And” what would Derek do? “
“I am happy that I am also supported by many friends and Ranvir [Singh from GMB] has been really helpful because she has been working as a single mother since her son Tushaan was very young.
“I asked her,” How do you do that? “And she said,” You just have to accept that you can’t do everything. “
In conversation with Good Housekeeping, 53 year old Kate also talked about her husband’s progress.
In November, Derek also uttered his first word in six months, and Kate talked about the importance of hope, but also how long we had to go to recovery.
She told the magazine, “We really hope we’re on a path to improvement. It’s a lot two steps forward, three steps back, but when I think back to where we were in March 2020 when Derek’s lungs were full of infections.” and its infection rates were the highest doctors have seen in anyone who has lived, we are undoubtedly in a more positive place. “
Regarding the last 10 months of her life that were messed up by Derek’s sudden illness, she says kindness in unexpected places helped her get through.
Kate said, “That was one of the good things about that terrible time, and I found it [kindness] in the most unexpected places.
“There is a beautiful woman who lives across from me and I didn’t know her before, but every week she makes a cake for me and the children.
“Somehow she always knows when we need an elevator most urgently! That’s one of the reasons why we really got to know each other, and that was nice.”
In addition to talking about Derek and the traumatic year for the family in the magazine, Kate is also publishing a book called The Power Of Hope, due out in April.
She has said the book is about the “raw and emotional” story of her husband Derek’s fight against Covid-19 and the “devastating effect” it had on him and her family. She is also doing an ITV documentary about the family’s situation, which is expected on screen in March.
