A murderous retiree who served out snacks made from the meat of people she murdered has died of the coronavirus.
Sofia Zhukova, 81, died in a Russian prison awaiting prosecution for at least three murders. The police suspected she was responsible for at least four other deaths.
The evidence against them includes the fact that they found human intestines in their refrigerator when they were arrested.
One of the victims of serial killer Gran, known as the “Russian Sweeney Todd,” is an eight-year-old girl who the OAP reportedly upset by playing too loudly.
She was reportedly killed after cheekily tossing ice on the OAP after being told to keep quiet.
Zhukova was finally arrested after the disappearance of 52-year-old caretaker Vasily Shlyakhtich, who agreed to rent a room in her apartment in the village of Berezovka, Khabarovsk District, Khabarovsk Oblast, in January 2019.
A spokesman for the Russian Investigation Directorate in the Khabarovsk region said: “Criminologists discovered knives and saws on which they found traces of the victim’s blood. She was arrested for murder and taken into custody during the investigation.”
She died in Khabarovsk No. 10 Hospital after catching COVID-19 and is believed to have started her murder attempt after her husband died in 2005.
The three murders she has been tried for include the eight-year-old girl, the 52-year-old who rented her apartment, and a 77-year-old woman.
Locals said the woman had worked as a worker for years and was strong for her age and often took an ax with her. They had often complained that she killed local cats but never suspected that she killed humans too.
A local resident identified only by her first name Tatyana said at the time: “We always found it strange that even though she was grumpy and unfriendly, she often found the time to cook things for the local children. It was always meat dishes. Sometimes she gave them to the adults and bought them for me and my husband plates of jellied meat. “
She added, “I remember it well because my husband said we shouldn’t eat it, you never know what it was made of and now it looks like he’s right.”
Tatyana said the police confirmed that she used meat from the people she killed.
During interrogation, the elderly woman admitted killing her lodger, and as police went deeper, they were shocked when she allegedly also admitted to killing an eight-year-old girl who disappeared on December 14, 2005.
She reportedly said the girl was a nuisance and annoyed her by running around loudly and the last straw was when the child threw a piece of ice at her. After that, her fate was sealed.
At the time they identified themselves as belonging to the child, some fragments of human remains were found, which shocked the girl’s mother, identified as Natalya Alekseenko, who was tried on herself as the woman, refusing to accept that her daughter might be no longer lives somewhere.
In addition to the three people accused of murder, police also believe she was responsible for the murder of a friend, Nina Babenko, aged 83, after she moved in as a lodger in April 2013.
The OAP sold her apartment and took the money but was never seen again. No information was given about the other three alleged victims, about whom she has not yet been charged.
She had admitted killing the caretaker and was tried in October for the other murders in which she shocked the court by laughing as the charges were read. The hearing continued last year when the court ordered a retrial in June.
The case, which was heard in the Khabarovsk district court, was then postponed due to coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
