Greta Thunberg to testify in Congress on Earth Day

Swedish teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg will testify before Congress at an Earth Day hearing on Thursday when President Joe Biden will convene world leaders for a virtual conference on climate change.

Thunberg, Time’s Person of the Year 2019 for her work on climate change, will appear before a House Oversight Committee committee for a hearing entitled “The Role of Fossil Fuel Subsidies in Preventing Action to Combat the Climate Crisis”.

Key context: The testimony will be given when Biden hosts a climate summit with 40 world leaders. So far, the White House has endeavored to convince world leaders to make new commitments for this event.
