A UK store employee is receiving “rave” reviews online after engaging a drunk customer in a late-night dance off — and even attempting to do the Worm across the floor. A viral video of the grocery store showdown is currently blowing up on Facebook as admirers laud the worker for heeding the call of booty-shaking.
“It was the best customer service ever,” Lisa Negus, the intoxicated customer’s wife who uploaded the vid, told Kennedy News of the incident, which occurred last month at a Tesco Express in Lyndhurst, Hampshire.
The 48-year-old haberdasher and her fiancé, Steve Williams, had reportedly just finished celebrating a very boozy two-year anniversary. However, the lovebirds were disappointed with the meal, so they decided to go to the store to grab some snacks for their hotel.
Little did he know, Williams, 51, was about to participate in a supermarket hootenanny for the ages.
The “Saturday Night Fever”-esque scene began innocuously enough with Negus and her hooch-filled fiancé becoming possessed by the Tesco music and busting out some moves in the confection section, KN reported. Then, a young store manager, named Dean, spotted their shindig and decided to groove along, prompting the pair to challenge the lad to a competition.
“I was very shocked at first, but I thought I’d encourage him,” said mother-of-two Negus. “Having a few drinks, we had a bit more confidence.”
“I was drunk and having a little bit of a dance,” Williams said. “And he just came over and started doing it as well, so we had a dance-off.”
The resultant footage shows the contestants shimmying towards each other in the snack aisle as bystanders guffaw in the background. They meet in the middle, and start swaying side-to-side in unison with Dean perfectly mirroring his elder opponent like a cobra with a snake charmer’s hand.
Just when things appear to be going swimmingly, Williams leaves the youngster in the dust by dropping to his belly and Worming his way down the aisle.
“I’m not even trying that,” says a dismayed Dean, who eventually attempts to follow suit after encouragement from Williams’ bemused squeeze. After fumbling the first try, his dance sensei guides him along in a Worm race across the floor, whereupon both collapse into a fit of giggles at the silly spectacle. The clip concludes with two exhausted competitors shaking hands and embracing.
Despite taking Dean to task, Williams praised the young-un for playing along, gushing, “He was such a good sport and a good laugh, and the fact he kept trying the Worm was great.”
“It was good to see him enjoying himself and not care what people think,” the impressed reveler said.
The social media peanut gallery seemed to agree, with one admirer writing, “Go on Dean the bean … so so funny .. what a star.”
“This has actually made me cry with laughter,” said another. One Facebook fan fawned, “These youngsters can’t take on the old skool ravers.”
The happy couple were ultimately glad that the Tesco man was able to provide them with both dinner and a show.
“It was a breath of fresh air compared to what normal staff are like,” fawned Negus, adding that Dean deserves a “promotion” for his outstanding service.
