A groom has died of coronavirus two after his wedding where 95 guests also contracted the bug.
The unnamed 30-year-old man, is understood to have displayed Covid-19 symptoms during the wedding in Paliganj near Patna in Bihar, northeast India.
India Today reports that the man a software engineer from Gutugram died within days of the June 15 wedding. He was cremated without being tested for the virus.
However officials who were informed of his death contacted the dead man’s relatives who had attended the wedding and 15 tested positive for coronavirus.
After contract tracing other guests, 80 more people tested positive for the killer disease.
His widow tested negative for Covid-19.
India Today reports that the dead man developed virus symptoms in the weeks before the wedding. The event was a “massive violation of guidelines by the family who went ahead with the wedding despite the groom showing symptoms of Covid-19.”
The ceremony breached social distancing rules and flouted a ban on mass gatherings of more than 50 people.
Earlier this month, despite its strict lockdown, India overtook Italy in the number of new Covid 19 cases recorded over 24 hours.
India has one of the world’s highest number of confirmed cases alongside Brazil, Russia and the US.
As of Monday ( June 29) the country has recorded 548,318 COVID-19 total cases – a jump of nearly 100,000 in a week.
