Harris hires a new comms director, Jamal Simmons

Jamal Simmons, a veteran communications advisor in Democratic circles, has been named director of communications to Vice President Kamala Harris, a White House official confirmed.

An announcement is expected on Thursday, according to the official. An official start date is unclear.

The move comes after Harris’ top two press and communications staff, Symone Sanders and Ashley Etienne, left the office in December. The vice president’s office began after a year of scrutiny of Harris that neither the White House nor her office were properly prepared for, officials have admitted.
