Disney Plus just has a wealth of Marvel, Star Wars, and classic Disney content at your fingertips, which comes in handy now that everyone is stuck in the near future. If you decide to sign up for $ 7 monthly subscription and use these tips to ensure you get the most out of what the service and the app have to offer.
1. Know your shortcuts
One of the easiest ways to stream Disney Plus content is through your web browser and there are some associated keyboard shortcuts that are worth knowing. They save you the hassle of reaching for the mouse or placing your fingerprints anywhere on the touchscreen.
To press Space stops and starts playback while you press M mutes and mutes the volume, which is useful if you need to focus your attention elsewhere. Use the Up and Down cursor keys to adjust the volume, and the Left and Turn right keys to jump forward and backward.
2. Find out what’s new
The Disney Plus interface doesn’t make it particularly easy to discover what’s new. New movies and shows often appear in the main carousel when you load the app, but you can’t sort titles based on when they were added to the service.
But our old friend Just look, which includes services such as Netflix, Hulu and Prime Video, as well as Disney Plus, has you covered. Go to the Disney Plus section from the site and you can sort everything, both movies and shows, by how recently they appeared on Disney Plus.
3. Add to your watchlist
Disney has added a watchlist feature to the Disney Plus menu, which you can access in the app on any platform as well as the web. Look for the Plus button that appears next to lists for movies and shows, and click it to turn the plus into a checkmark.
Your list of bookmarks is easy to find. Just select Watchlist on the web or tap your profile icon Watchlist in the Disney Plus app. To remove something from the list, you need to click or tap tick icon on the original list page to make it a plus again.
4. Know how to search
The search function on Disney Plus is not the most advanced, but you can use it for searches that are a bit more advanced than shows or movies. You can search by genre if you feel like watching a ‘comedy’ or ‘musical’.
You can also search for specific people, actors or characters (although the former works more reliably than the latter). Unfortunately, you can’t (yet?) Search for individual episodes in long-running series like The Simpsons.
5. Give profiles to everyone
Like Netflix and other streaming services, Disney Plus allows you to set up different profiles for each family member. That means that the things your kids like don’t get in the way of what you want to see, neither in the recommendations, nor in the Stay tuned panel.
To create new profiles, tap or click your current profile icon wherever it is, then select Edit profiles and Add profile. Choose an avatar, name the new profile, and select whether or not the profile is limited to children’s content.
6. Turn off autoplay
Rest your brain and go and turn off autoplay to pump the brakes on your binge-watching session. This means that the next episode of a show will not start automatically once you have finished the episode you are currently watching.
This feature is actually managed per profile, so your partner or kids can continue to binge watch themselves even if you don’t want to. Tap or click your profile avatar, then choose Edit profiles. Choose the profile you want to configure and then disable the Autoplay toggle switch.
If you watch Disney Plus through the web interfaceyou can share links to shows and movies with your friends. If there is a movie you must have seen, or if you want to show someone at a certain moment The Simpsons (clearly a favorite of ours), then you can – more or less.
There is no official sharing feature, but copying the URL from your browser’s address bar will get you started (your friend must also have a Disney Plus account). You can share links to the main listing pages, as well as to individual movies and show episodes.
8. Request more shows and movies
There’s already a lot to see on Disney Plus, but not everything in the Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars stables is available and can still be streamed. If you want to see something special, you can give Disney a little push in the right direction.
Find the Help out section on whatever platform you use to stream Disney Plus and then search for the Give feedback link. You should then be able to request a movie or show from Disney’s extensive catalog of content that the streaming service has not yet made.
9. Set up offline viewing
Like any good video streaming service, Disney Plus allows you to cache movies and shows on a local device for a period of time. You can keep watching even if you lose the WiFi connection on an airplane or even if you plan to camp in the woods for a week.
The only catch is remembering to queue up titles before you lose your connection. Tap the small download icon next to a show or movie to save it. You can store as much cache as you want if you go online only once a month with an active account on the same device.
10. Change the video quality
You can adjust the download quality of Disney Plus content if you want to save data on the go, but then make sure to watch the video with the highest resolution when you use Wi-Fi back at home.
Tap your profile avatar in the Disney Plus mobile app. below App settings, crane Video quality. You can choose from Standard, Medium, and High. From the same settings screen, you can tap Use of mobile data to save data while streaming directly.
