The main election for the Commonwealth Games 2022 will open in Birmingham on Wednesday.
Here the PA news agency takes a close look at the next big multisport event in Great Britain.
What are the basics?
The games run from July 28th to August 8th.
The event showcases 19 sports and eight parasports, some of which are traditionally seen at multisport games such as track and field, cycling, gymnastics, and swimming, and some make their debut at the games – women’s T20 cricket and three-on-three Basketball, for example.
How do I get tickets and how much do they cost?
Organizers have set more than a million of the tickets at £ 22 or less, and they start at £ 8 for children and £ 15 for adults. The ballot papers are open until 8 p.m. on September 30th. Those interested in securing tickets for one of the 286 sessions should create a ticket account at birmingham2022.com.
Which venues are used?
The overwhelming majority of venues existed prior to the decision to award the Games to Birmingham after Durban was deprived of hosting rights in 2017. new water sports center in Sandwell.
Cannock Chase Forest will stage mountain biking, while track cycling in London will take place in the Lee Valley Velopark, built for the 2012 Olympics.
Women’s cricket is played in Edgbaston, while Smithfields, in the city center, plays beach volleyball and three-on-three basketball against the backdrop of the Rotunda building and the Bullring shopping center.
Will capacities be limited due to Covid-19?
No at this stage. Organizers are keeping the contingency plans in mind, of course, but Birmingham 2022 board chairman Ian Reid said Tuesday that they were confident they could operate at full capacity – even if additional controls are required for coronavirus certification.
