Russian influencer Polina Strelets has been in hospital in Bali for 25 days

A young influencer is fighting for her life after a jet ski accident in Bali landed her in a coma.

Polina Strelets was riding the jet ski when the accident happened, leaving her with a double leg fracture and injuries to the base of her spine.

The 24-year-old, from Saint Petersburg in Russia, was on holiday in Indonesia, where she has stayed in hospital for almost a month.

She will be evacuated home by the Russian government via air ambulance, Russian State Duma deputy Mikhail Romanov confirmed on Saturday.

Images show Polina enjoying her holiday shortly before the horrific accident.

On her Instagram page, she is seen swimming at a waterfall and running through the fields in Bali.

Polina was reportedly operated on in Indonesia but lapsed into a coma after the surgery.

Doctors reportedly diagnosed her with a fat embolism, as a piece of intravascular fat is lodged in her blood vessel, blocking the blood flow.

She is currently being cared for at a hospital in the city of Denpasar, Bali.

Reports suggest she had RUB 50,000, or £482, in health insurance but a day in hospital in Indonesia reportedly costs approximately RUB 250,000, or £2,410.

Her parents said that her health insurance was barely able to cover some of the costs for the operations.

They therefore decided to take her home and petitioned the Russian government to evacuate her.

Mr Romanov said: “I express my gratitude to [Deputy Prime Minister] Tatyana Golikova for the lightning-fast response to my appeal and prompt assistance in resolving the issue of evacuating the St. Petersburg woman.

“Our duty is to fight for the life of every citizen of the country, regardless of where in the world help is needed.

“The sanitary evacuation of Polina and her further treatment on the territory of the Russian Federation is under my personal control.”
